I transmigrated into a dynasty called Great Yu, and even became a famous young master from a noble house in the capital city of Sheng’an.

My father is the Sheng’an Magistrate, holding the third rank of officialdom.

My family’s matriarch is a member of the Cui Clan, one of the Five Prestigious Families of the capital—nobility among nobility.

Their son is even more remarkable: elegant and talented, with the bearing of dragons and phoenixes. Before even turning fifteen, he passed the provincial examination to become a juren.

Every aristocratic family in the capital competed to betroth their legitimate daughters to him. His boring life has nothing left but endless wealth and honor stretching as far as the eye can see.

That’s my younger brother.

As for me, my current mission is only one thing—not getting beaten to death by my father.

My name is Song Shi’an.

When one’s illness has penetrated to the heart and diaphragm, when can there be peace?

T/N:

The final line is a wordplay on the protagonist’s name 时安 (Shí’ān), which means “when [can there be] peace.”

The full phrase 病入心膂何时安 references a medical idiom about illness penetrating deep into vital organs (heart and diaphragm), asking rhetorically “when can there be peace?” Collapse

Quite good novell, I personally recommend it for reading. The End is good, logically right and understandable. Read on mtl.

Very good novel I love kingdom building novels and this is definitely one of the better ones, and for the people who are hung up on the harem tag don’t worry there is one main heroin that gets most of the screen Time. The other one is more like a side character and doesn’t have much impact on the plot. And the best part is this ends in 485 chapters with a good ending. One of the few novels I finished. Highly recommended a 4.2/5 for sure

Why do most of you hate harem stories? Haha. Isn’t the protagonist having multiple women a good thing? After all, it’s literally his right as the “protagonist,” someone above ordinary people. Every comment section has someone complaining about harem. Lol

Firstly, it’s always not done well.
Secondly, it always diverts from the story-line and ends up nowhere.
Thirdly, it’s always the author self-inserted s3xual fantasies and kinks being written, which is fairly disgusting.
Fourthly, a few novels hits the readers with harem at the middle or end, which is always disappointing.
Fifthly, experienced readers look for brain simulating novels not for lust-wish-fulfillment novels.

A harem can be a fun thing—on the condition that the author actually knows how to write one.
Where the harem plays a real role in the plot, where characters aren’t just added for decoration or some kind of fanservice, where the author develops them and makes you care, where the harem isn’t shown a couple of times only to be forgotten, and at the same time doesn’t completely hijack the entire story.

Having read a large number of novels, I’ve only rarely come across stories where the harem was done well and I was glad it was there. More often, the harem only ruins the story. Authors can’t properly balance either the amount of time given to the harem in the story or the development of the characters.
That’s why those who have read enough novels simply don’t want to see a harem in the story—because that harem can destroy an otherwise good plot. We understand this, and that’s why we react negatively to it.
Harems are aimed at schoolkids and those who are just starting out or are still in the middle of their journey in the world of novels.

Well, the harem isn't even supposed to be its own thing. It's supposed to be part of the world, culture, or part of the romance. Otherwise, if it doesn't have a clear purpose behind it, it's clear that the author is borrowing the trope for higher viewership.

And the worst part is that it often works. Such works will allways b rated. Still remember reading Paragon of Sin back then. Such a peak work, yet the author got too distracted with the whole harem thing that he forgot about Mc and what made the story great...

I never said that a harem should become something independent. What I meant is that a harem perfectly complements the story and the journey of the main character.
When the girls in the harem are a delight to read about—whether in their involvement in certain events or even in some everyday moments—it adds charm. If the harem is written properly into the plot, it can truly be a powerful tool to boost interest in the story as a whole. At least, that’s how I feel. However, as mentioned earlier, well-written or even just decently written harems are extremely rare

As for the novel you mentioned, for me it was already dead long before the harem problems appeared
In my opinion, this is one of the most overrated novels on many web novel sites. The beginning was excellent, with good potential, but later it was completely ruined. It feels like the author himself didn’t know what he was writing and didn’t even bother to develop the personality of his main character. That’s why, after some time, he decided to turn the protagonist’s personality upside down
