Being mistaken for an Ancient Predecessor usually resulted in heavenly benefits. Not for James Anderson.

After being thrown into an isolated training realm, he was quick to figure out that there was no tutorial. No guidance. No ancient being to fully unlock his system. For eons he remained stuck by himself. Only system notifications and rewards appearing out of thin air kept him from going insane.

But even that eventually stopped working.

Standing at the precipice of the Isolated Realm. He closed his eyes and jumped.

A tear in reality opened under his feet, unbeknownst to him. Dumping him into a cultivation world gone awry. Demons and evil cultivators now dominate the world. Righteous sects and clans hole up in caves and array defended mountain peaks.

Why they hide? Well, let's just say James had something to do with it.

Follow James Anderson, or is it Yin Hu, as he is dragged into petty squabbles and the lives of the last remaining Hu Family members; Hu Shui and Hu Jun.

Will he achieve his ultimate dream? Would there finally be his dream lady to pamper him after eons of struggling? Or maybe he should begin a harem chasing adventure?

Follow James (Yin Hu) as he navigates the world with the belief he isn't that strong.

Book 2:

James is unable to take advantage of his Ancient Predecessor persona!
Even after escaping the Silver Mountain Gang, the direct number of Jade Beauties drops precipitously. At least he doesn't need to deal with any he meets trying to kill him anymore.

Who is he kidding? It was still his ultimate goal.

Into the Bleak Forests he and the Hu girls, Hu Shui and Hu Jun, go. A mysterious couple that seems awfully familiar follows them. Will they be met with danger? Monsters? World shaking beasts and spirits?

Except everything hides when Yin Hu approaches.

Now he must figure out how to navigate new system functions and its sudden appearance to deal with everything secondary to him directly. Prevent his girls from directly ascending through the process of mutations that he has started. Keep them from cultivating too fast that they drain the world of Qi, and most importantly, out of trouble from bounty hunters, kidnappers, and more.

The petty squabbles remain.

Ancient forces conspire to fight against him. Will they work together, or will old grudges prevail in keeping Yin Hu from having to face any of the old fools. Or will the Second Calamity's arrival change everything?

Most importantly, will Yin Hu ever find a dream lady to pamper him after what feels like ages dealing with politics and family history? Then again, starting a harem-chasing adventure might be the only way forward.

Follow James (Yin Hu) as he navigates the world with the belief he isn't that strong. Collapse

Couldn't take more than 20 chapters. While the idea is good, the execution is lacking. First of all there is way too much monologue, combined with mc being kinda mental and clueless (even before before isolated for countless eons, which strangely didn't seem to change his mentality at all). Also the story feels a bit forced in many aspects (lacking justification for many mc decisions and system limitations, also using a misunderstanding-trope to advance the plot which I don't like).

Hoping for someone to persist to see if the author tones down those aspects later on, after which it could be good.

First of all an English cultivation novel makes me want to contemplate whether to continue reading novels at all second of all this part of the description scares me

are you trying to make your job hard on purpose? This type of plotline is something very few people can write properly even in novels where similar things happen like The world after the fall but even then it required so much buildup while this is seemingly at the very beginning eons without going insane? Buddy porky went insane after just a thousand years inside that absolutely safe capsule it just isn’t something someone can delve into as a novel plot point and one at the very beginning that confidently but I might be wrong so just poison taste this if you can and reply I might actually entertain this

To be honest, it was the opposite for me. With so many Chinese and Asian cultivation Novels that the few American cultivation novels I read immediately got me hooked. Of course, in all 3, there are shit Novels. But you just gotta find the diamond in the rough sometimes.

That’s why I asked if any poison tasters rate this well because if it’s actually good I’m willing to check it out but it just feels iffy for someone who never lived in china (which I’m presuming) to write a novel with a main character in that kind of environment especially because he has a Chinese name which kind of assumes it’s going to be in that culture sphere if the gamble ends up well then yeah I’ll be reading people just gotta tell me first

At least Chinese writers no longer write a chapter and a half about some slut coming up to the stands to watch the tournament and then another four chapters about two opponents entering the ring and "fighting" with words, while the main character mocks them in his head, despite still being weak as a chicken. Yes, I'm talking about you – "The World of Martial Arts"! Or was it "The True World of Martial Arts"? Basically, almost all the old Chinese crap with 4,000-7,000+ chapters is the same. These novels won't sink in water. Water doesn't sink in water.
