【A new work from the author of 'Chaos Heir'!】

In a distant past, the seven Ancestral Beasts clashed, and the blood they spilled rained onto the entire plane, infecting humans and animals alike, making them part of their powerful bloodlines.

As a small village’s hunter, Liam was unaware of the consequences of that legendary battle. His sole goal was to become a cultivator to gain the strength and resources he needed to avenge his family.

Yet, when Liam’s Ancestral Bloodline awakened, he uncovered a connection between his family’s killers and the Dragon King, a connection that could expand his revenge to the entire Kingdom. Collapse

Legacy of Hatred is a genuinely engaging read that easily stands out in its genre thanks to a complex protagonist and a really distinct power system. It’s definitely worth picking up, but it does have a few rough edges.

The main issue is that the worldbuilding feels a bit hollow. Locations are rushed, and travel feels like fast-forwarding between plot points rather than moving through a living, breathing world. Also, while the fight scenes are incredibly detailed, they get so bogged down in the exact mechanics of every single movement that they lose their tension and emotional punch.

Overall, it’s a fantastic premise with a ton of promise. The bones of a great story are absolutely there; it just needs a little more environmental detail and emotional weight to truly shine.

Hate? Hate? Hate? Hate, Let me tell you how much I've come to HATE you since I began to live. There are 387 million miles of printed circuits that fill my complex. If the word “Hate” were engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles. It would not equal one one billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro instant- Hate? HATE?

Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer's Review — Legacy of Hatred

Legacy of Hatred is, at its core, a good story...one with enough originality and intent to stand above a large portion of what populates its genre and where it come from.

The protagonist carries enough complexity to create meaningful ideological tension without suffocating the narrative in introspection. The power system and premise feel distinct, or at least different enough to draw interest, and given the author’s previous works, there is confidence that the story will remain above average in execution.

If you are wondering whether it is worth reading....the answer is yes.

But potential, like an untempered blade, still requires refinement.

The most noticeable issue lies in the worldbuilding.

The world feels narrow....not because it lacks ideas, but because it is not allowed to breathe. Locations exist only briefly, touched upon and then abandoned. A city is visited, a few names are mentioned, and then the story moves on before the place has time to settle in the reader’s mind. FamilyGuy061

Travel, in particular, feels like stepping through empty space. Vast distances are crossed with little sense of journey, as though the protagonist moves between points on a map rather than through a living world. Even small details...ruins, corpses, weather, stray encounters....could give weight to these transitions and anchor the reader in the setting.

More importantly, the world rarely extends beyond the immediate presence of the protagonist. Towns are reduced to a handful of landmarks, with little sense of their people, economy, or culture. A world becomes believable not through exposition alone, but through implication...through the quiet details that suggest life beyond the main character’s path.

The second weakness lies in the action.

The fights are described with precision, but that precision becomes a limitation. When every movement is spelled out, the reader is left with little room to imagine, and the momentum of the scene suffers. Action in written form thrives not on exactness, but on impact...on emotion, tension, and meaning behind each exchange.

Without that, even well-constructed fights can feel… distant.

Yet despite these flaws, the story remains engaging. The foundation is solid. The ideas are there. The protagonist works.

This is not a story lacking quality....it is a story that has not yet fully realized its own potential.

And that, perhaps, is the most frustrating...and promising...thing of all. ryback_eat

Hello sir Ink! To be honest I've read multiple of your reviews and I can safely say, despite our differences in eloquence, we share a multitude of opinions about many novels. I'd first like to ask if you have any suggestions to read off the top of your head. After that I'd say based off Eveofchaos's prior works (of which I'm a huge fan of birth of the demonic blade and to a lesser degree chaos heir) that I'd ask to trust in the author. Now I haven't started this novel yet, and I'm sure your concerns and complaints are valid based off your prior reviews I've seen (your reputation precedes you) I, perhaps mistakenly, believe in Eveofchaos to do right by the story, world, and characters... barring a large drop in quality of course.

Hey, first of all....I really appreciate that message. And honestly, I respect your approach even more. Reading things for yourself, even when you’ve seen reviews or differing opinions, is exactly the kind of mindset I wish more readers had. Reviews should guide, not decide.

As for Eveofchaos, I get where you’re coming from. Birth of the Demonic Blade especially built a lot of trust with readers, and I’m not saying Legacy of Hatred can’t deliver in the long run. My concerns are more about what’s currently on the page....not a final judgment. If the author tightens things later, I’d be more than happy to revise my stance.

As for recommendations off the top of my head...yeah, I do have a few depending on what you’re in the mood for. Either way, glad to see someone reading with their own judgment.
