The dialogue are messy, and there is only narrative issues from the start. Not recommended as of 3 chapters (though it might become better later, correct me if so)

TL quality takes a huge dive at ch94, with some sentences being ok, but others making no sense at all. It may improve later on, but at least the "Ares Trial" chapters are borderline unreadable. Story is decent though, just the random dip in quality is unfortunate.

While reading Greek mythology, the impression Hades created on me was this: they say Zeus is the king of the gods, which is true, but in my opinion, while Zeus can command other gods like Poseidon or Ares, he can never command Hades, because Hades is not actually one of the Olympian gods—he is only an honorary member of the club. Hades has his own pantheon, with many gods and monsters serving him. It is also safe to assume that the ancient Greek heroes residing in Elysium serve Hades as well. Hades suppresses the terrifying beings in Tartarus on his own; in short, just like Zeus, he is the god-king of his own pantheon.

He is Zeus’s older brother, the eldest among the siblings. His power is most likely equal to Zeus’s, or even greater. In the event of a war between the two pantheons, the possibility of Hades winning is not small.

This has nothing to do with the novel; I just wanted to share my thoughts. I wish everyone an enjoyable read.

Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer's Review — King of Underworld

I began this story out of boredom.

Expectations were low....another power-scaling tale, perhaps a loud ascension where the protagonist replaces Zeus and declares himself supreme.

    That did not happen.

Instead, what I found was a quieter story. One that unfolds slowly, with intention.

At its heart, this is a retelling of Greek mythology through the perspective of Hades.....not as a distant, untouchable god, but as someone who once lived as human. That duality shapes everything. He carries the detachment of a god, yet retains fragments of human compassion and hesitation.

He does not rush to solve every conflict.
He does not dominate every scene.

In fact, most battles happen without him.

And that is precisely the point.

As the ruler of the underworld, his presence is not meant to be loud. Influential. He nudges rather than overturns, alters rather than destroys. Small changes ripple outward, gradually reshaping familiar myths into something just slightly… different.

The pacing reflects this approach. It is a slow burn. Those expecting constant divine clashes may find themselves waiting. The story prefers to linger....on interactions, on shifts in perspective, on the quiet consequences of a god who has known mortality.

The protagonist himself is difficult to categorize. He is neither cold nor warm, neither heroic nor detached. His demeanor carries a certain stillness, contrasted by the natural gloom associated with his domain. He does not always act when he should....sometimes thinking like a god when the situation demands a human response.

That imperfection makes him more believable.

The romance emerges late and gently. It does not overwhelm the narrative, nor does it feel forced. There are hints of harem elements, but they remain secondary to the broader mythological framework.

If there is a weakness, it lies in how closely the story sometimes follows traditional myth structures. While the protagonist introduces changes, one can’t help but wish for a more dramatic divergence....a bolder rewriting of fate rather than a careful adjustment.

Also it is HAREM...which I cant tolerate but sometimes some poisons are good for a longing heart where elixirs don't ease the melancholy that's been plaguing it. gosling2

Still, what the novel offers is consistent:
    A grounded reinterpretation of myth.
    A restrained protagonist.
And a world that shifts, not through conquest, but through presence
    .

    — Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer,
Underworld management is a slow job.
