Ruthless Villain is a half-baked adaptation of the “villain protagonist” trope. The author tries to hook us early with shock value; killing off a newbie protagonist, strangling his love interest, and then casually wiping out her family. Sounds edgy, right? Except it isn’t. Instead of “shock and awe,” it comes off as sad and nonsensical, like someone mistimed a punchline.

At first, you’re left wondering: is this an ancient-China-inspired Xianxia? An urban Xuanhuan? A fantasy cosplay convention gone wrong? That should’ve been warning bells already. Only later do you discover it’s some bizarre parallel world with modern tech, superpowers, martial artists, and cultivators all jammed into one setting—because why not?

Let’s talk about the MC.
He’s a walking contradiction. One chapter he’s head-over-heels for a female lead (probably an attempt to make him relatable), and the next he’s pointing a gun at another woman to force intercourse (read: rape). If that’s a dealbreaker for you, then this is not a story for you.

The weird part is the author seems determined to whitewash this mess. One moment, MC is portrayed as ruthless, psychopathic, or just plain emotionless. The next, he’s “in love,” and the woman he manipulated goes along with it as if Stockholm syndrome is the new romance trope. You’ll need to twist your brain into a pretzel to keep up with the logic. Honestly, it would be better if the author just committed: either go full scumbag villain who takes what he wants, or embrace the reluctant anti-hero arc. This half-and-half approach just makes everything feel broken.

But hey, no major spelling or translation mistakes. So... that's a win, no?

In short: this novel is a steaming pile of hot garbage. If you want a properly executed villain MC, read I Am the Fated Villain. If you want a harem-chasing anti-hero in a modern urban setting, try I am a Gao Fushuai Villain.

Only pick up Ruthless Villain if you’re actively trying to kill brain cells and have way too much free time on your hands. As Sir #Deathseeker# writes; this is trash amongst the trash.
