    Disappointed with Lance.

    There was barely any proper development or fallout within his marriage to justify him cheating on his wife—and worse, with Barbara, Patricia’s cousin. The very person who became the source of Patricia’s doubts and insecurities.

    Honestly, the deeper Lance immerses himself in the Federation’s dark and depraved society, the more the line between him and those monsters begins to disappear.

    Quite a distasteful development, though oh well.

    Overall, it’s been a good read up to this point. The machinations and schemes are genuinely well thought out, but never to the extent that you feel compelled to root for the protagonist. The more you read, the clearer it becomes that he simply overcomes everything thrown at him with little meaningful suffering or loss on his part.

    “Bland” is probably the word I’d use.

        You didn’t even address nor engage with my criticisms towards the novel, which from a reader’s perspective, are all valid.

        I am a reader before all things. That is why I understand Lance’s political standing, his circumstances, and the decisions he makes. I can see the logic behind them, born from a desire not merely to survive, but to thrive within the world he inhabits.
