Chapter 76: You Sold Me Out Just Like That?

The moment she ran out of the inn, Vivian suddenly stopped.

“Vivian, what are you standing there for?! Run!”

Looking at Father Matthew, who had already caught up and was still fighting the Fire Elemental Spirit, Lilith became anxious.

“No, Lilith, we can’t leave!”

As she spoke, Vivian looked behind her, her eyes filled with determination.

“No, Vivian, are you crazy?”

Watching the distant Fire Elemental Spirit getting completely suppressed by Father Matthew and clearly unable to hold out much longer, Lilith could not understand at all.

What exactly was Vivian trying to do?

Judging from her expression, she actually wanted to fight Father Matthew.

No, Vivian, what exactly are you thinking?

Lilith truly could not understand.

However, she quickly learned the reason.

“Lilith, this matter started because of me. I can’t drag innocent people into it!”

“Granny Phoebe’s inn has already been damaged like this because of me. There’s no way I can ignore Granny Phoebe’s safety too.”

As she spoke, Vivian looked toward Lilith with incomparably determined eyes.

Vivian raised her right hand as the bracelet once again emitted crimson flame-like light.

“Lilith, go find Granny Phoebe and bring her safely away from here. I’ll stay behind and hold him off!”

The moment her words fell, a second Fire Elemental Spirit was summoned, directly targeting Matthew.

“Vivian.... you...” Upon hearing Vivian’s words, Lilith looked toward the distance behind them with a dumbfounded expression.

Not far away was Granny Phoebe desperately fleeing for her life.

And honestly speaking, Lilith felt she probably could not even outrun the old lady.

To be perfectly honest, this was also Lilith’s first time seeing an old woman run this fast.

“Um, Vivian, I think maybe.....”

However, before she could finish speaking, Vivian interrupted her.

“Lilith, we don’t have time! Hurry and find Granny Phoebe, then take her away!”

Vivian herself did not understand why she was acting like this.

Although Vivian clearly knew this meant putting herself in danger, she still felt this was something she ought to do.

Thinking about Granny Phoebe’s kind face, then recalling the horrific scene at the altar last night—

“The one who deserves to die is a demon wearing human skin like Matthew, not kind-hearted people like Granny Phoebe!”

“Um, Vivian....” Lilith’s voice came again from behind her.

“Lilith, you don’t need to worry about me.”

“Um, Vivian, that’s not what I meant.”

“Lilith, take Granny Phoebe and leave. Don’t worry, I have a way to escape.” Vivian interrupted again while comforting her.

Naturally, Vivian knew what Lilith wanted to say.

She understood very clearly that if she did not say something like this, Lilith would never leave.

“No.” Lilith scratched her head while looking at the still self-moved Vivian.

A thousand emotions ultimately condensed into two words.

“Alrighty!”

The moment her words fell, Lilith ran off without the slightest hesitation.

Vivian: ???

Lilith’s sudden decisiveness left Vivian somewhat unable to react, causing her to subconsciously turn around and look.

In the distance was Granny Phoebe’s familiar figure.

Although Granny Phoebe looked quite old—

“But why is she running so fast?”

Vivian was completely dumbfounded.

Watching Granny Phoebe’s legs practically blur from speed, Vivian’s brain failed to process the situation for a moment.

Behind Granny Phoebe was Lilith desperately accelerating, yet still easily left behind.

And then there was herself, standing there stupidly.

Good lord, so the clown was actually me?

Pointing at herself, Vivian felt utterly unbelievable.

“No..... is this even right?”

However, Vivian quickly seemed to react and immediately turned around and ran.

“Wait for me!”

“No, Vivian, why are you running too?! At least hold him off a little longer!”

Seeing Vivian catch up, Lilith panicked.

“No, Lilith, your reaction is wrong!”

“At this moment, shouldn’t you be forcibly dragging me away while I insist on staying behind to stop the enemy?”

“You’ve seriously read too many novels. You even got emotionally moved by yourself. No.... why don’t you go help the Fire Elemental Spirit instead? That way Matthew could at least be delayed a little longer!”

While running, Lilith still did not forget to tell Vivian to stop.

“Damn it! I’m so angry!”

Clearly, at this moment Vivian realized she had apparently overestimated the friendship between the two of them.

“Um, Vivian, I actually have a suggestion. We could split up and run separately.”

Looking at Vivian chasing after her from behind, Lilith suggested.

However, Lilith’s proposal was firmly rejected by Vivian.

“Lilith, we’re good friends. How could I abandon you and escape alone?”

“Actually, I don’t mind.” Lilith honestly replied.

“But I mind! Ever since arriving in Silvermoon City, lonely and helpless, you’re my only good sister. How could I abandon you?”

Hearing Vivian’s answer, Lilith was practically moved to tears.

“Vivian, can’t you please be merciful and split up already?”

Vivian clearly had no interest in listening to Lilith’s sincere persuasion and even accelerated further.

When Lilith saw the two Fire Elemental Spirits get killed by Matthew behind them, and the man himself already charging toward them, she finally could not hold back anymore.

“Vivian, you clearly know Matthew’s chasing you, yet you’re still running with me!”

Hearing this, Vivian finally stopped pretending.

“Damn you, Lilith! I treated my sister sincerely, but my sister played mind games with me! Just now you abandoned me without the slightest hesitation!”

“And you even wanted me to stay behind as cannon fodder. This is your punishment! Kekeke.....”

Vivian felt she was simply too evil.

Lilith felt exactly the same way.

A terrible choice in friends!

Looking at Vivian and Matthew chasing from behind, Lilith felt like crying.

She was merely an ordinary person. There was no way she could outrun Vivian and Matthew.

“It’s over!”

However, at that very moment, Lilith saw a figure appear in the distance.

At that instant, she saw the light of hope.

It was a cold-faced silver-armored blue-haired big sister.

“Woooo!”

“Aelia, get him! Beat that damned cultist Matthew to death!”

Lilith practically screamed the words out.

......

Meanwhile, on Aelia’s side—

At this moment, she was leisurely slacking off.... or rather, patrolling.

“Has the deputy director lost his mind?”

“He actually told me to capture Matthew, the priest of Saint Radiance Cathedral?”

Recalling how she and the other Enforcement Officers nearly got wiped out while trying to capture Matthew last night after receiving the report, Aelia could not help shivering.

The man was simply too terrifying.

She could barely avoid him as it was—why would she possibly go looking for trouble with someone so frightening? Was she tired of living?

“For this little salary every month, who the hell risks their life? Slack off, slack off!”

According to information gathered from her colleagues today, Matthew appeared in the Silvermoon City trading district last night and killed many goblins.

Therefore, for safety reasons, the crafty Aelia deliberately chose to patrol somewhere very far from the trading district.

Just as Aelia thought she would be able to slack off peacefully all day, suddenly—

Love appeared around the corner.

That familiar voice belonged to Lilith.

“What’s she yelling about?”

“‘Aelia, get him’? The audacity! Don’t think just because you chatted with me a few times that you can order me around!”

“Wait.... what else did she say? Matthew?”

Looking toward the direction of the voice—

There was a panicked Lilith, along with Vivian desperately chasing behind her.

And then—

The person Aelia currently wanted to stay furthest away from.

Matthew!

The moment she saw Matthew, Aelia’s face turned green.

No way, and she still ran into him?!

She no longer cared about anything else.

Turn around, run, fall over—all completed in one smooth motion.

Aelia: ???

Looking at the banana peel beneath her feet, Aelia failed to react for a moment.

However, when she noticed Lilith’s hand retracting in the distance, she immediately understood.

What a sinister woman!

If Aelia guessed correctly, that banana peel was definitely meant for Vivian.

Aelia could swear she had just seen Lilith running while estimating Vivian’s approximate position behind her.

But because Aelia suddenly appeared, Lilith switched targets to her instead.

And because of this brief delay, the two girls had already run past her.

Looking at Matthew, who had stopped because he mistakenly believed she intended to block him, Aelia felt utterly miserable.

“If I say I was just passing by, would you believe me?”

The answer she received was a gigantic Sacred Light spear.

“No.... at least listen to my explanation!”

After being struck, Aelia was blasted backward, blood spraying from her mouth.

“Boom!”

Immediately afterward came a massive crashing sound as Aelia smashed through a wall and collapsed into the rubble, her life or death unknown.

After casually dealing a single blow, Matthew did not even bother paying attention to the heavily injured Aelia and instead continued chasing Vivian.

Not long after Matthew left, Aelia—whose eyes had supposedly been tightly shut—quietly opened one eye into a slit.

After confirming Matthew was no longer paying attention to her, she finally let out a sigh of relief.

Subconsciously glancing at the shattered armor over her chest and the white underwear exposed beneath it, Aelia relaxed.

“The defensive equipment I demanded from Father as a birthday gift back then was definitely the smartest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

After confirming she was safe, Aelia stood up and wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

“Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! This chicken blood tastes so fishy.”

“And recently there’s apparently bird flu going around. Next time duck blood might be safer.”

As she spoke, Aelia ran away in the opposite direction without even turning her head.

Although her colleagues in the Enforcement Bureau all regarded her as an outstanding Enforcement Officer who bravely charged the front lines—

Aelia herself understood her own situation very clearly.

She only dared act recklessly because of this defensive equipment.

Against enemies incapable of breaking her defenses, she boldly charged forward fearlessly.

But against someone like Matthew who could break her defenses, naturally she stayed as far away as possible.

Aelia successfully escaped.

But Vivian and Lilith’s side was doomed.

When Lilith dragged her into an alley, and especially after discovering it was a dead end, Vivian felt as though the sky had collapsed.

“You disaster magnet... Lilith, what kind of path did you lead us into?!”

Watching Matthew slowly approach from the alley entrance step by step, Vivian deeply regretted following Lilith while running.
