“Finally lost your temper?” Chen Changsheng asked with a smile.
The Tabby Cat insisted stubbornly, “I did not!”
“Yes, you did.”
“No!”
“Yes, you did!”
The Tabby Cat felt a little wronged. He stamped his foot and looked at Mo Yu. “Mo Yu, look at him. He’s bullying me.”
Mo Yu smiled helplessly and glanced at Chen Changsheng. “He can’t handle teasing.”
Chen Changsheng chuckled. “Alright, just joking. Lihua didn’t lose his temper. Happy now?”
The Tabby Cat gave a loud ‘hmph’ and stopped talking to Chen Changsheng. Instead, he happily ran over and jumped into Manyue’s arms.
After spending so much time together, he had grown close to Manyue.
As for why he went to Manyue’s arms—it was probably because she smelled nicer.
Chen Changsheng looked at Mo Yu. “How’s the recovery?”
Mo Yu said, “With Miss Manyue’s help, I’ve recovered seventy percent.”
“That’s good.” Chen Changsheng nodded and didn’t ask more.
His gaze turned to Manyue.
Manyue’s eyes seemed to be asking something.
Chen Changsheng nodded. Then he walked inside.
Manyue put the Tabby Cat down. “I have some matters to discuss with Mr. Chen. Go play with Mo Yu.”
“Can’t Lihua listen?” the Tabby Cat blinked and asked.
Chen Changsheng, beside them, said, “If you hear it, you won’t be allowed to go out and play later.”
“Ah!” The Tabby Cat quickly jumped out of Manyue’s arms.
“Lihua won’t listen! Lihua wants to go play!”
Chen Changsheng smiled and walked forward.
Manyue followed behind, laughing softly. “Even a child would fall for that trick. Why trick Lihua too? He wasn’t bright to begin with. What if he becomes even dimmer in the future?”
“Isn’t Lihua like a child too?” Chen Changsheng said.
Manyue thought about it. That seemed true.
Lihua really was like a little kid.
The two walked inside the giant tree at the center of Cloudtop Manor.
Chen Changsheng looked up. He saw sparse blossoms hanging from the branches.
“Caught enough?” Manyue asked.
“Should be enough. Not as many as the Spirit Cage, but the Underworld Palace’s rules don’t need to be nearly that complete. Guess we don’t need that many Evil Spirits.”
“How many?”
“Over three hundred.”
Manyue paused. “You caught almost every last one?!”
Nearly a thousand were once sealed beneath the Spirit Cage. After the Heavenly Tribulation cut that number in half, plus the ones originally on the tree, that was about four hundred Evil Spirits.
Wasn’t that basically scraping the bottom of the barrel?
Chen Changsheng said, “Found some help.”
Manyue asked, “Does that mean we’ll have to move to a different place?”
“Maybe. Can’t say for sure yet. I don’t even know if it’ll work.”
Chen Changsheng wasn’t overly confident either.
“The Sutra of Rebirth holds the path to Reincarnation. With me here, you don’t need to worry about the Underworld Palace’s Laws of Heaven and Earth. Add these Evil Spirits as an offering, plus the Heavenly Secrets are still shrouded in Chaos, what else is there to worry about?”
Chen Changsheng shook his head. “The smoother things seem to go, the more likely something unexpected happens.”
“What part worries you?” Manyue asked.
Chen Changsheng pointed upwards.
Manyue fell silent. That, indeed, deserved worry.
She also thought of something and decided to remind Chen Changsheng.
“Something else,” Manyue said. “I couldn’t help feeling something’s off.”
“The Mundane Fortune of the Mortal World has surged. Gifted souls appear frequently. This concerns legacies. That ‘Buddha’s Child’ fought me once. After returning, he was received by the Venerable Ones of the Buddhist Sect. Over the years, the Buddhist Sect started spreading their teachings, chanting scriptures, recruiting many followers in the Mortal World. The Mystic Gate naturally joined in, merging into the Daoist Sect. This struggle of Buddhist Dao, it fell onto the Mortal World.”
“Miss Manye thinks this tribulation is Heavenly Dao’s design?”
“Exactly.”
Miss Manyue said, “If that’s truly so, then the Heavenly Dao isn’t completely trapped in Chaos. All this was intentional. And it’s strange that after all this time, he hasn’t caused me any trouble.”
Chen Changsheng frowned after hearing this. “I will stay more vigilant.”
He felt something wasn’t quite right. There was a persistent sense that he didn’t need to worry about the Heavnely Dao.
It felt like a hidden suggestion.
Though Chen Changsheng had never truly communicated with the Heavenly Dao, over these years, the Heavenly Dao had aided him in many situations.
Probably because of that.
But one still needed to stay cautious. Better safe than sorry.
Chen Changsheng thought for a moment. “In that case, I’ll visit the common world again. There are also some things I wish to verify.”
“That works.” Manyue nodded. “Best to hurry. I sense the fog is about to clear.”
Chen Changsheng paused. “Alright…”
He then proceeded to seal each of the three hundred or so Evil Spirits into one of the little blossoms.
It was a huge effort.
Watching nearby, even Manyue was impressed, yet uneasy. “This Divine Ability of yours… doesn’t it drain your Magical Power?”
“It’s manageable.”
Manyue opened her mouth, finding it hard to grasp. Chen Changsheng’s Magical Power seemed boundless.
But in truth, Chen Changsheng was paying a hefty price this time.
Over a hundred strands of hair gone…
It hurt a little.
…
By the time he finished tending to the Evil Spirits, the sky was darkening.
Under the bright moonlight, the blossoms on the tree swayed gently in the breeze. The entire tree was covered in flowers.
Chen Changsheng looked at it, very pleased.
But on a second glance, his brows furrowed.
That one Phoenix Flower looked distinctly out of place, marring the view.
Chen Changsheng shook his head. “This one Phoenix Flower spoils the beauty.”
Manyue, hearing this, was momentarily stunned. “It’s already ugly enough like this, and you’re fussing over just one?”
A leafless tree plastered with white flowers looked like a funeral display. She truly couldn’t understand why Chen Changsheng found it beautiful.
“Really looks bad?” he asked.
“Mhm.”
Chen Changsheng rubbed his chin. “Looks like we better pick off that Phoenix Flower.”
“I mean the whole tree looks bad.”
“The Phoenix Flower ruins everything.”
“..”
Manyue gave a resigned smile and didn’t argue further.
Chen Changsheng raised his hand and summoned the Phoenix Flower to his palm.
“Huh?”
Chen Changsheng lowered his gaze. “You hid well.” he remarked.
Alerted, Manyue also looked down.
Chen Changsheng pressed a finger against the Phoenix Flower.
Instantly, a plume of black smoke erupted.
“Screech!!”
A shrill Phoenix cry suddenly echoed through the Cloudtop Manor.
Chen Changsheng thrust his hand into the black mist and clamped firmly around the neck of the Evil Phoenix.
Manyue raised an eyebrow. “It already regained a physical body…?”
How had she failed to notice it all this time?
Though a divine Phoenix, its feathers were covered in dark mist, and its eyes held a bloody gleam.
The eyes of the Evil Phoenix burned fiercely at Chen Changsheng, brimming with malice.
