Chapter 2: Simulator |
"Captain, another victim has appeared! Time is running out! When do we take action?"
"If this continues, more innocent people will die!"
Lin Shuman hid in the corner of the restaurant, watching Guan Shan take a seat at the adjacent table, reporting to her superiors with a grave expression.
She wore headphones made by a special C-class ability user, allowing for telepathic communication.
This conversation would not be detected by the two D-class ability users in the restaurant.
Lin Shuman's mission target this time was the two D-class ability users disguised as the restaurant's chef and waiter—Zhao Hong and Fang Minmin.
Both of them were flesh-type ability users, one with enhancement abilities and the other with mutation abilities.
As pure sociopathic criminals, their only purpose in committing crimes was to satisfy their desires.
Lure, control, and slaughter.
Lin Shuman, as a member of the Special Safety Action Team, was sent undercover due to her unique disguise abilities.
Captain Lin Wu's voice came through: "Stay calm. This opponent's abilities are unusual. Experts are still analyzing. Acting rashly could cause more casualties."
Lin Shuman took a deep breath: "Understood..."
She looked at the waiter, who was serving Guan Shan a plate of unidentified but visually appealing meat.
Once eaten, it meant being parasitized and becoming a puppet of the other side.
Damn it... Another innocent person is about to be sacrificed?
——
The meat hanging on the hook had fine palm lines, slender knuckles, and red nail polish on five fingers.
——It was clearly a woman's hand!
Guan Shan froze in his seat.
A hallucination?
"How could this be a hallucination!"
"What is this Horror Game Simulator all about? Explain what you mean by ensuring personal safety during gameplay. Does this game want my life?!"
"I was just having a meal, and now it's turned into a horror movie?!"
"What the hell is going on?!"
Though Guan Shan's mind was in turmoil, he maintained a composed exterior, displaying the professionalism of a reporter.
He knew that in horror movies, yelling and screaming in such situations often led to dire consequences.
So, he forced himself to look away from the still dripping hand calmly.
But before he could steady his nerves, a putrid, nauseating smell hit him.
It was like... stepping into a slaughterhouse, with countless offal and rotten meat piled together, fermenting for months!
"Ugh!"
Guan Shan's face changed drastically, covering his mouth and nose, nearly vomiting.
He lowered his head, his pupils constricting.
The only certainty was—
This was not the meat of an animal!
Guan Shan's face turned pale, and he began to tremble, catching the attention of the departing waiter.
The waiter politely returned, bending down to ask, "Sir, is there anything I can help you with?"
Guan Shan felt like he was suffocating. Hearing the waiter's pleasant voice, he pointed to the unidentifiable item: "This..."
As he looked up, the waiter's grotesque face, composed of writhing meat chunks, came into view!
As the waiter spoke, the mottled, decaying, greasy chunks of meat moved like living creatures, making squelching noises.
Damn!
The waiter's face was only about twenty centimeters away, and the close-up, horrifying image almost made Guan Shan jump.
He wanted to retract his earlier statement—this waiter was anything but normal!
This was scarier than the kitchen!
So, this Horror Game Simulator turned everything he saw into part of the game?
But this game was too realistic!
Guan Shan struggled to control his facial expressions, swallowing hard, trying to calm his rapid breathing and pounding heart.
Stay calm! Stay calm!
In such moments, any slip would mean death!
Guan Shan steeled himself, gritting his teeth, enduring the nausea, and stared directly at whatever this thing was.
No hesitation allowed!
"N-no, cough, no problem! I just had a sudden allergic reaction, an old issue, nothing serious, ha ha ha, no need to worry!"
Guan Shan swallowed the acidic saliva, forcing a professional smile.

"Are you sure you're okay? It looked like you were pointing at your dish to say something."
"If there's anything you're dissatisfied with, please tell us. We'd be happy to correct it!"
The waiter's writhing face suddenly produced an eye, surrounded by mucus and tendrils, which rotated a few times, fixating on Guan Shan.
It seemed to be observing his expression.
"Well, I thought there might be an allergen in the meat, but upon closer inspection, it wasn't."
"My allergy might be due to dust on the way."
Guan Shan maintained his professional smile, showing no cracks.
"Sorry to bother you. Please carry on!"
The waiter's face retracted the eye, which slithered like a snake, coming within inches of Guan Shan's eyes before retreating.
Guan Shan's heart pounded as if it would burst, his back drenched in cold sweat.
He was about to break...
Thankfully, after a couple of seconds, the waiter pulled back.
She presumably smiled, saying, "Then I won't disturb your meal. If you need anything, please let us know. Our restaurant prioritizes service."
Watching the waiter leave, Guan Shan exhaled in relief, feeling utterly exhausted.
At that moment, he noticed lines of text and a health bar above the waiter's head.
[[Flesh Nest] Waiter (lv.6)]
[Health: 400]
[Description: Where is she? She is everywhere.]
"A level? Health bar? Monster! The waiter is a monster!"
Guan Shan's mind cleared: "So this is the Horror Game Simulator's doing!"
"It simulates a scene based on reality, making me fight monsters!"
The mechanical voice echoed again.
[Plot loaded!]
[Late at night, you enter a strange meat buffet restaurant. Under the warm, bright lights, the meat in the pot is not meat, and the people in the restaurant... are not people.]
[Beginner Tip: Observe the scene carefully, use items to defeat enemies. The more kills, the higher the score, and the greater the rewards!]
[*Note: Only by defeating the final BOSS can you end this simulation!]
"Items in the scene?"
Guan Shan latched onto the keyword.
He cautiously scanned his surroundings, spotting a peculiar glint under a nearby table.
Staring at it, a string of information popped up.
[Glock 17]
[Ammo Capacity: 17/17]
[Attack Power: 50]
[Description: A ubiquitous handgun, biubiubiu~]
"Ubiquitous my foot... This game is quite cheeky, but isn't ubiquitous a bit much?"
Guan Shan couldn't help but mentally complain, but seeing the gun barely a meter away comforted him slightly.
As long as there are weapons and health bars, it's manageable!
At least it indicated this simulator was emulating Resident Evil, not Outlast...
"Then..."
Guan Shan's eyes flickered towards the kitchen, where the "thud, thud" sounds emanated from the meat mountain.
"The final BOSS must be that guy."
[BOSS [Butcher] Chef (lv.8)]
[Health: 1200]
[Description: Alive, it's a person. Dead, it's meat.]
Guan Shan was astonished: "Such a thick health bar! It's three times that of the waiter! Can this BOSS be killed with a handgun? Or are there other items I haven't discovered..."
He quickly surveyed the scene for more information.
He was a whiteboard lv.1, nothing much to say about himself.
Most customers in his view had turned into [Carnivores], becoming level 1 to 3 monsters.
The system hinted he could level up by killing monsters.
"The restaurant is only this big. Once I start acting, it will definitely attract the waiter's attention."
"Now it seems the only way is to maneuver to other areas, kill monsters to level up, and look for other items."
"This is the only way!"
Guan Shan took a deep breath, noting the positions of the level 1 carnivores around him. When the waiter turned away, he darted under the table.
Grabbing the gun!
