Chapter 891: Going Against [Despair], Flawless as White Jade

Perfect Life: “......”

He smiled bitterly as he touched his own face. Though Sin’s way of speaking was as outrageous as ever, he still understood exactly what the other was saying.

At this moment, that face—once hailed as the world’s most perfect—had changed dramatically from before.

Though still handsome, a streak of black energy now marred its beauty.

His originally high nose bridge seemed even more pronounced now, because his eye sockets were deeply sunken, as if he hadn’t slept for days.

The man exuded an aura of decadence and weakness, long gone from his former image as the “universal template of human perfection.”

“Heh, seeing me like this must make you look down on me, huh.”

“Yeah, pretty much.” Lu Ce nodded very calmly.

With the conversation at this point, it became hard to continue. After a brief moment of silence, Lu Ce spoke again:

“Is it because of your divine power problem? It affects you that much? I feel like you’ve been resisting the power of [Despair] all along.”

Perfect Life silently nodded.

He was currently the Apostle of [Despair], wielding the power that belonged to it. But this dark, vicious energy just didn’t mesh with his nature at all.

Whether it was Xie Antong and [Pleasure], or Sun and [War], they had all found something inherent in their own character’s foundation that aligned with the divine power, allowing them to absorb it and progress rapidly.

But in Perfect Life’s dictionary, he had never even known what [Despair] was. He had hardly even experienced frustration!

He found it extremely difficult to accept this power; in fact, he felt its taste was something he found exceptionally repulsive.

Lu Ce made no comment on his situation. He gave Perfect Life a once-over and said flatly:

“The way you look now, your strength must have dropped badly. Sun has surpassed you, and honestly, even Blank could probably take you down now.”

“And don’t be surprised if, in a couple of days, those people over there surpass you too.”

As he spoke, Lu Ce tilted his chin in a distant direction.

He could sense that some players from the god-player wagers had also arrived, hanging around far off in the distance. He could even feel the presence of some old acquaintances.

“Sigh, what a pain. Don’t these people have anything better to do? Why are they always crawling up my ass?” Lu Ce said with some exasperation.

These people had probably rushed over nonstop since he had fairly restored Shui Zhongmeng yesterday, and likely all at the same time, too.

Do I really have that much charm? The world is practically ending, and these people are still acting like groupies…

Perfect Life smiled. He, of course, knew there were quite a few others like him who had come here.

“I don’t know why they came, but I came specifically to see you.”

“What do you want with me?” Lu Ce asked.

“I don’t know. I only know I feel lost. And when I feel lost, I feel like coming to see you.”

Lu Ce: “?”

A question mark immediately formed from the flowing light on his mask, stiffly pointing at Perfect Life across from him.

“Don’t misunderstand. I just wanted to see what the man in front was doing, and how he was doing it.”

Lu Ce glanced at the Heaven and Earth Society members still restrained by Perfect Life and said:

“What can I do? Didn’t you just see? They came looking to die, so I’m beating them.”

“But you didn’t have murder in your heart when you made your move today. You weren’t using killing blows. You clearly didn’t intend to fight from the start.” Perfect Life said.

“It shows you still acknowledge their persistence. There was no need to really turn this place into a river of blood.”

In his view, Sin hadn’t brought a killing intent this time. Perhaps, in his eyes, these people were no longer even worth considering as opponents.

But when he had dealt that heavy blow to Shui Zhongmeng, Perfect Life thought Sin had been provoked. That’s why he had hurriedly shown up to stop him, worried that Sin would go on a killing spree.

“You’re actually playing the good guy now?” Lu Ce looked at him with some surprise, feeling both absurd and curious.

The other’s reaction almost completely meant he hadn’t absorbed the power of [Despair] at all. In fact, he was actively resisting it.

“Why did you stop me from killing them?” Lu Ce deliberately asked. “You should know, if I were to act, no one on this Great Wall could resist me.”

“They’re nothing but lambs waiting for slaughter in my eyes. That’s the pinnacle of despair—a perfect source of nourishment for you, wouldn’t you say?”

Hearing this, Perfect Life couldn’t help but frown, as if he disliked hearing such words.

After thinking for a moment, he replied very frankly:

“I don’t like that. And I also don’t think you’re someone who actually enjoys killing.”

“If I have to completely sell my soul and principles just to gain the power of [Despair], then that wouldn’t be me anymore.”

Lu Ce let out a cold laugh and said:

“Selling your soul? What’s that? Got anything to do with you?”

“You’re a goddamn artificial human made by genetic engineering, and you’re here insisting on some sense of self?”

One sentence caused a large patch of pink to appear on his mask—that was the acerbity of [Jealousy].

He was doing it deliberately. He used those harsh, cruel words on purpose, trying to provoke Perfect Life in front of him.

Perfect Life fell silent indeed. If there was any dark corner left in his beliefs, this was it.

But after thinking for a moment, he only replied very calmly:

“Who I am comes from my own self-judgment and self-identity. It has nothing to do with what kind of power I possess or what my origins are.”

Lu Ce: “......”

This time, it was Lu Ce’s turn to fall silent. He was genuinely surprised. After being injected with the “Corruption Potion” and having his genome modified, Perfect Life had actually become even more flawless than before.

This kind of unshakable conviction—he had only ever seen it in Sun…

Such a personality seemed completely at odds with [Despair]!

“But if that’s the case, I’m afraid you won’t be able to absorb much of [Despair]…”

“Do I have to follow their path?” Perfect Life smiled. “But look at you. You don’t seem to be deliberately causing others pain to grow stronger, do you?”

Lu Ce fell silent at that. He was actually wondering the same thing. Just now, during the time he had been fighting, his [Agony] power had actually increased a bit.

But before, [Agony] had said that he didn’t grow stronger by bringing pain to others.

So what exactly was the path to absorbing divine power…

While Lu Ce was lost in his own thoughts, Perfect Life continued:

“Just now, I actually felt that I had absorbed some of [Despair]’s power.”

“But if I had chosen not to step forward and stop you because of that, then my entire life would have been lived in vain.”
