I became the general manager of a horror hotel.

Not a monster, but an NPC. Not a villain, but a commoner. Not a patient, but someone with a condition.

“Thank you for visiting.”

It’s not easy to live as a character in a game. Especially now when that game is set in real life.

“How can I help you?” Collapse

Definitely agree with the other reviews that the beginning follows a slow pace, but it is necessary.

Although I dislike horror and I was put off by some of the tags, the setting of the story actually suits my taste, but I might be a bit biased because I love stories with cats, even if they are a bit weird.

Read for the cat, stayed for the plot.

I look forward to every update and would say it's worth your time, though only if you're a patient person.

For future readers, a longer but clumsy intro: this book is about a man who has been playing one game for a large amount of time, around twenty years, the game is a pixel hotel management sim with the added genre of horror.

the hotel houses ghost stories, weird entities and humans, though the humans dying is one of the goals of the game.

It is said to be one of the most painful games to play EVER, is HUGELY unpopular, and it is our MC's favorite.

one day, he wakes up in the tutorial stages of this game and is expected to become the manager and co-owner of the hotel, sacrificing people to become very powerful.

but our guy is very sensible and refuses to kill people, this causes many difficulties that make the book interesting.

    -------

At the start, the book isn't very fast (it's actually pretty darn slow) but the concept is what made me stick around.

as someone who is at chapter 88, I can say it gets better. Still slow, but the gradual change of the MC is one of the biggest pros.

the co-owner, a cat who can only speak in yesses and nos during the early book, grows to be quite endearing despite how irritating I found it during the first chapters.

The misunderstandings are also quite humorous, when they happen.

Physiological horror and changes are a big part of the book, and I find how the author wrote it to be very interesting, especially how our MC tries to fight it!

Spoiler about MC and the hotel:

I would give this a solid 4.3 out of 5, due to a few spoiler-ish nitpicks I have, but I recommend this book for those who can sit through boredom for latent gratification, and to those who enjoyed Ghost Story, gotta work (Though Our Hotel Open For Business is much bloodier than GSGW)

    I'm off! wiseacre know

This novel ain't bad, as long as you're ok with the glacial pace. Recommend as of chapter 47.

If you like novel "ghost story gotta work" you should also read this one.
this novel is new, with a background of hotel as the main location of the ghost story/disaster. What I like about this novel is, it combine lots of horror aspects and woved it into one.
the author really puts a lot of research in many things, like medical terms, legal terms, fairy tale things etc.
MC here has the background of middle age man working as bio-engineering researcher before he was kidnapped by the hotel. And I think the author is also a fan of Resident Evil, as there was like a little bit background story of you know... human experiment to create 'something'.... but in here the supernatural things are also mixed well.
the difference between "our hotel open for business" and "ghost story gotta work" is the way the story unfold. Both are rated 15 which also depict gore and thriller aspect. But!!! This novel is much darker, grotesque, bizzare than the "ghost story gotta work". Of course I love "GSGW" as I love the wholesome relationship the MC there with his companions which mostly human, and that MC uses his knowledge well to reach his goal, and mostly his plan works well.
In here, the story mostly revolves around MC and the Cat co-owner. There are other characters both human and monster. The bitter aspect is...

Everything never going to his plans. Despite he knew the inside and out of the hotel from his 26 years experience playing the hotel game. Not all information from the game can be used and those information are not entirely the truth. Reality is completely different from the game, moreover there is always 'bug' game interefering with everything, which make all aspects from the game he knows from the hotel, monsters etc are all unpredictable. So... MC here does everything in a hardcore mode all the way just to maintain his survival.
When I read this, it feels stifling on how dark the story unfold and how MC gradually becomes insane. Of course there are cute moments too. Especially the Cat co-owner which has a similar role as an animal therapy for MC. Which is quite ironic.
The monster cat gradually learn human emotion the longer it lives with MC, while MC gradually lose his humanity the longer he deals with the hotel.

I was reading on another site and saw that the last chapter was released 3 years ago (the oldest chapter was released 5 years ago). Does anyone know if the author has stopped releasing chapters?

I'm pretty sure the author started this novel this year. It's still releasing one chapter a day in the original source.
