Lin Xun accidentally downloads a text-based game called The Book of Salvation.

Leveling up by fighting monsters and exploring adventures was already exciting, but soon he realizes he can bring game items and even characters into the real world.

While other players can only use one character, Lin Xun struggles to pick from entire armies.

While others are stuck with weak human characters, he commands terrifying boss monsters.

And when he summons a grotesque monster boss into reality:

“If I said I’m here to save the world. Would you believe me?”

“???”

“I believe you… my ass!” Collapse

I read 179 chapters before giving up. This is my review:

The premise is good and well executed. The beginning presents an interesting Soulslike style. I particularly liked the punishment of not being able to have less than 1 soul point and the fact that regeneration is slow. I even liked his talent.

However, everything seems to get boring after the first "world". My reasons are:
    1. [Everything starts to get very repetitive]. It seems that all the author's ideas have been used and he simply keeps repeating everything.
    2. [The "second world" is not interesting]. It's a world about "magic" and "knowledge" that causes deformation in people through forbidden knowledge. A very interesting premise for a Soulslike, but one that proved quite tedious in the writing. The protagonist himself seems to make only artificial choices without much difficulty. He is chosen by the "god of knowledge," who always helps him when he makes a "wrong" decision. I really expected more.

    3. [His connection to the real world becomes unbearable and excessively "comfortable"]. The intelligence department is too "simple," the protagonist benefits too much, and the department itself seems to know too much about him.
    4. [The enemy organization in the real world has proven quite uninteresting so far]; they say there are 12 disciples and all that, but there hasn't been any involvement that I felt was necessary to like it.
    5. [The protagonist seems very artificial at times]. He seems to have been designed to be a selfish and intelligent protagonist (I really like protagonists like that), but often I see him as just an artificial protagonist. If you took him out and put in a secondary character, it wouldn't change anything. It's not the protagonist who drives the story, but the author who is forcing its direction.
    6. [Leveling system]. I don't understand the leveling system, I mean, its influence. What's the difference between a level 10 and a level 50? There are no attributes, no "status" ranking like we have in xianxia or anything similar; it simply says he got stronger, and that's it. Then it shows that a Common Lv40 is much weaker than a Rare Lv20 or 30, but it doesn't explain anything. I believe the author didn't want to "tie" his novel to numbers with attributes and such, while also wanting a game-like system, but I think the execution was very poorly done, and that greatly diminished my enthusiasm as a reader. I didn't feel excited if any "shell" had its level increased.

Overall, what I really missed was world-building and narrative. I'm on chapter 179 and I still haven't managed to insert a good narrative that allows the protagonist to explore a suitable world. We don't fully understand anything about the game, nor has the dimension of the real world been shown in its entirety, so it was boring; it felt like I was reading about a guy playing a mobile game without real risks or challenges.

Perhaps I'm being too critical, but it's because I just finished reading "Struggling to Survive with Regression Power in the Primordial Saint Sect - 苟在初圣魔门当人材", which presented a real challenge about a protagonist trying to "survive" and had great world-building, so my expectations are relatively high.

I expected more from a quick read romance. Since my goal in reading it was to pass the time and have fun, I give it a maximum of 2 or 2.5 stars out of 5. I don't recommend it.

I don’t understand how people can read part of a novel, and then shamelessly give it a review. Do you also cover up 80% of a painting and appreciate only the feet of the buddha depicted?

Everything from the game can be brought back to reality,

    ## 👍 What Netizens Like

    ### 1. The "Souls-like" Vibe – The Novel's Biggest Draw

This is the most praised aspect. One veteran reader gave the book **5 stars**, calling it the only web novel that successfully captures the "Souls-like" essence.

    > *"There are very few web novels with a Souls-like atmosphere, and most of those focus on enemy spam, the apocalypse, and the protagonist's suffering—not entirely wrong, but not really capturing the essence of Souls games either."*

Another reader summarized: *"The level design, puzzle style, boss fights, plot direction, and even item descriptions are all steeped in a Souls-like atmosphere. Reading it, I could almost picture the game buttons and combat scenes."*

    ### 2. A Superb Premise and Setting

The worldbuilding is widely praised as the novel's greatest strength. It's described as "wildly imaginative and endlessly creative." It blends **text adventure, Souls-like dungeons, and Lovecraftian apocalypse** into a unique steampunk末世 setting. Elements like bodies, skills, and armies are vividly and meticulously depicted. The dungeon worlds feel fresh and non-formulaic, and the plot is full of twists and turns.

    ### 3. Has Its Merits

Despite its many flaws, many readers acknowledge that the novel's strengths are so prominent that it remains engaging. One reader commented: *"The main plot is loose, but I didn't drop it—so there must be something worthwhile."*

    ---

    ## 👎 What Netizens Dislike

    ### 1. The Author's Own Confession of Failure

The author admits that he planted "landmines for collapse" as early as 200,000 words before the novel was even published. He confesses to making numerous mistakes, saying: *"I lacked experience and preparation. The whole book has collapsed; I can only stop here."*

    - **Broken leveling and power system**: He admits he failed to design proper level thresholds for the classes, rendering levels meaningless and the power system "ridiculously broken." The protagonist's subsequent upgrades become aimless.
    - **Deficient talent and skill system**: He admits that the overpowered skill
, making fight scenes impossible to write.
    - **Failed to leverage the genre's potential**: He believes that aside from the beginning, he failed to capture the two core features of the "text game" genre: wacky options and a player-forum atmosphere.

    ### 2. It's a Mess

One reader bluntly commented: *"The premise is okay, but the content and plot are too sloppy and chaotic—unreadable."*

    ### 3. Lack of Climax and Unsatisfying Ending

Many readers note a significant quality decline in the later parts. The author himself admits the entire book collapsed and he rushed the ending. One angry reader left a negative review, calling it a "terrible ending" and complaining that the story "cut off before it was finished."

    ### 4. Flaws in Worldbuilding

Some readers criticize the real-world sections as feeling dated and "otaku-ish," lacking an epic feel and more like a single-player game. Another reader also noted that the protagonist's "aura of stupidity" was too strong, making the apocalypse feel overly simple.

    ---

    ## 💎 Verdict

This is a novel with extremely prominent strengths and weaknesses. Whether you'll like it depends entirely on your tolerance for its "collapse."

    - **Recommended for**: Readers who crave novel settings and ideas; fans of "Souls-like" game culture looking for a substitute; readers who can accept a decline in quality later and are prepared for a rushed ending.
    - **Not recommended for**: Readers who demand strict logic and grand narratives; readers with high expectations for combat and worldbuilding; readers who cannot tolerate a later decline in quality.

    | **Core Feature** |
Pros: Strong "Souls-like" atmosphere, unique and well-executed |
Cons: Author admits failure to leverage the genre's (text game) potential |
    | **Setting & Plot** |
Pros: Wildly imaginative, creative, engaging dungeons |
Cons: Broken power system, illogical, chaotic |
    | **Overall Experience** |
Pros: Surprisingly engaging, strong highlights |
Cons: Sloppy content, repetitive later parts, rushed ending |
    | **Characterization** |
    Pros: Characters are vivid |
Cons: Real-world characters lack interactivity |

Ultimately, *I Am Saving the World in a Doomsday Text Game* is a niche novel for readers who love its unique "Souls-like" atmosphere, not a universally acclaimed masterpiece.

I woulnt give it 5 star but its really an easy and good read.
We need a system of notation by class of novel.
Not on the level of omniscient, but top of it class as a mid+ novel for sure.

A nice fresh take on the simulation genre.

I think its not bad but I agree with Theinkdrunkwanderer that it doesn't interact much with the real world. There isn't the most depth and the world building needs work. But I think the plot and the chapters are enjoyable.
