Cheon Hwi-da, once feared as the Sword Demon, lived a life drenched in blood, only to fall before the rise of the invincible Heavenly Demon.

In his final moments, he watched helplessly as Tang Sowol, the last heir of the Tang Clan and the woman he couldn’t protect, perished before his eyes.

But fate grants him a second chance—he awakens 20 years in the past, as a mere orphan once again.

Swearing to rewrite the future, Cheon Hwi-da kidnaps Tang Sowol to shield her from an impending ambush.

Trapped together in a remote cave, their dangerous journey begins, where trust and survival become their only hope. Collapse

Reading up to chapter 15, it feels like a fantasy where the plot focuses on an adult main character traveling back in time to when he’s 17 so he can groom his crush. It seems like the author realized this while writing and decided to make the female lead in her 20s, but it doesn’t fit with the theme or culture of wuxia, and since the story and her character weren’t changed, she still acts like an underage teenager with Stockholm syndrome, and her family seems to love it. So, expect to switch off your brain while reading this, especially during conversations between characters.

in case you checking out only for the kidnapping in the title, it doesn’t really matter after 8 chapters, normal murim and romance progression afterwards

Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer's Review — I Kidnapped the Youngest Daughter of the Sichuan Tang Clan

Minor Spoilers Ahead...only a little bit...

The easiest way to understand this novel is as a lighter, warmer cousin to Childhood Friend of the Zenith.
Not weaker....just less interested in dragging your face through the mud.

This is a regression murim story that knows exactly what it wants to be: fast-paced, character-forward, occasionally dark, but never oppressive. The MC returns with knowledge of the future, yet not omniscience. Many key events happened beyond his awareness in his previous life, so he ends up uncovering truths alongside the reader rather than steamrolling the plot with perfect foresight. That balance keeps the story moving without draining tension. troll84

The pacing is one of its biggest strengths. Things happen. Relationships progress. Consequences land. There’s no endless circling of the same emotional beats. The MC enjoys life when he can, prepares for the Heavenly Demon when he must, and adapts based on opportunities rather than rigid destiny. The tonal blend....lighthearted banter sitting next to serious stakes...lands surprisingly well.

Character work is where this novel really shines. The MC has above-room-temperature intelligence, actual emotional maturity, and...most importantly.....self-awareness. He isn’t crushed by his trauma, nor does he pretend it never existed. He uses it as foundation, then actively works to fix what can be fixed. That alone puts him ahead of most regression protagonists.

The romantic dynamics are refreshingly functional. Progress happens. Miscommunication isn’t milked. The women are distinct, likeable, and not interchangeable props. The fact that the lead wife is not only aware of, but subtly supportive of, the harem long before it becomes explicit is… honestly rare in murim stories, and handled with surprising grace. The kidnapping gag....yes,plural kidnappings....somehow never overstays its welcome, largely because the comedy knows when to step aside for sincerity. troll2 troll22

Power-wise, the MC is strong but not untouchable. There are higher masters walking the world, real threats that can and will overwhelm him if he’s careless. His strength comes from skill, experience, and mindset rather than blessed physiques or absurd qi reserves. That keeps fights grounded and satisfying.

My main complaint is a petty but persistent one: the power scaling terminology. The novel repeatedly contradicts itself about realms...Transcendent, Flowery Realm, Supreme Peak...and while this doesn’t break the story, it does grate when reiterated too often. It feels more like a translation or consistency issue than a conceptual flaw, but it’s noticeable.

World-wise, the Orthodox sects are allowed to be flawed without being cartoonishly evil, the Unorthodox are mostly short-sighted chaos, and the Demonic Sect is properly terrifying. It’s murim done with restraint...not grimdark for shock value, but not sanitized either. yaranaikachu

This isn’t a groundbreaking reinvention of the genre.
Its highs aren’t as extreme, its darkness not as suffocating.

But it delivers exactly what it promises:
a fun, mature, emotionally competent murim story with good pacing, strong character interactions, and a protagonist who is actually pleasant to follow.

Sometimes, that’s not just enough....it’s ideal.

    — Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer,
One regression, several kidnappings, zero regrets.
