His soul transmigrated to the 19th century, where survival began aboard a despair-filled coolie ship. Lin Jie’s only lifeline was his modern knowledge—and a mysterious ability called Echo Touch, which allowed him to glimpse fragments of the past through contact with old objects.

In this low-magic world, where magic demands a price and power stems from knowledge, he hunts anomalous creatures with nothing but a mortal body. One by one, he turns them into unique “Grotesque Arms,” bizarre weapons infused with power. From an unknown nobody struggling on the fringes of order, he climbs step by step to become a legend atop the Hunter Rankings.

Welcome to 1888—an era where your sanity is as precious as your bullets. Collapse

I don't know where people get LOTM correlation with this book. To me it's closer to Sherlock Holmes with supernatural additions.

I would give this like a solid 6.5/10. It's not bad per say, just kind of middling compared to other novels of this kind of genre I have read. The MC is smart enough, and the world is decently interesting and the ideas are original-ish. However I feel like it lacks tension; the MC has never failed or has been wrong about any of his guesses at all in the chapters I read(all of them, the novels pretty short rn). So much so, that whenever I read about the MC needing to solve a new problem or issue, I just think 'Oh boy, he is gonna solve this first try, and is probably gonna get a bunch more rewards than expected'. This is because the MC is just written to never be wrong, which just yoinks any excitement I get from reading this. Also I just feel like things can be so much more developed than they are right now, as the ideas are good but execution is lacking. I just feel like other characters feel pretty one dimensional, and other aspects like world building, and interactions feel lacking in depth, wherein they could be developed far more. All in all, not bad, but the author definitely has room for improvement. If it got that I feel like it would be a lot more solid.

As of chapter 38: First impression, this book is good. I feel like the author of this wanted to create something similar to Lord of the Mysteries (anomalies, steampunk-ish setting) but it's not a carbon copy. Worldbuilding is good, though it's nothing amazing; it's just old Earth as far as I can see. Mc is extremely smart. The thing I like about this is the fact that "abilities" aren't something that are universalized. As opposed to LOTM, "abilities" in this book are not common whatsoever. It was mentioned that abilities do exist, they are just very rare. Most ability-ish powers come from technology. For example, people in this world don't use abilities to defeat the anomalous entities in this book. They use stuff like old fashioned guns (because it's 1888) and alchemical compounds. In the first few chapters, it was shown that these certain monsters had a weakness to nothing supernatural, but simply silver nitrate. Final observations: Old fashioned, steampunk style book. Has supernatural elements such as anomalies but nothing extremely groundbreaking as far as I have read. Worldbuilding appears to be a parallel Earth where legends are instead anomalies; nothing too special. Very smart mc. Power-scaling in this book is heavily reliant on technology, of which far surpasses modern Earth because of supernatural elements. I haven't seen anything that is negative to the story so far. 9/10
