Transmigrating into a wasteland ravaged by infected creatures and relentless natural disasters, Cheng Ye becomes a border inspector in Happiness City.

Every survivor seeking to join Happiness City must undergo rigorous questioning and inspection to prevent infected from infiltrating.

But soon, Cheng Ye discovers these infected are nothing like he imagined!

There are Deathwhisper tent**les that resurrect the dead, sustained by obsession.

There are Death Dandelions that can instantly infect everything within a two-kilometer radius.

There are Fiery Sunflowers that emit bio-deconstructing rays, melting everything in their path.

And there are Laughing Mandrakes that grow stronger the more they make creatures laugh…

What? I have to inspect these monsters?

Fortunately, Cheng Ye acquires a special Civilization Collector.

As long as a creature’s cooperation level is high enough, he can search and replicate their information, items, skills, attributes, abilities, or even facilities…

Even a failed search accumulates action points, which can be used to upgrade items, equipment, or shelters.

Wait, what? It can even search for a spouse?

Staring at the city lord’s wife appearing before him, Cheng Ye is dumbfounded! Collapse

I found 0 announcement up to now about new chapters or if autor its on hiatus.

Good new (kinda), for the ones interested on this novel the only thing im aware about this webnovel its that the autor started uploading their chapters 3 months back to an official site from 0 (u guess wich one, its kinda famous), so i really Hope its just a "going official" with this work and from that the stop of the delivering new chapters, up to now they are almost half way up to the last chapter, and when the chapter upload reach chp 290 i *hope* we get actuall new chapters instead just leaving it on hiatus.

No actual official anuncement of the situation, mostly hope from me that this novel is getting new content waiting long enough, but atleast we can know this isnt just dropped all

Well, for over 2 months now there is no chapters. And the rating dropped as I can feel. And I don't know why!
Here starts my review, because I gave it a "review" tag. Was reading it for quite a long time, including translator's free chp and then MTL. At first it starts not that well, but later on it sped ups enough. I personally like that type of novels, when mc builds or fortifies his base, recruits subordinates and so on. So, that my review might be slightly biased. Sorry pressure
MC doesn't have a typical type of system, but a researcher-like system that actually lets him copy abilities ( and not only that) from the creatures that do want to cooperate with him. And with that him helps his job - inspector. Asking questions, creating an atmosphere and doing whatever he could to make creatures be more cooperative (in percentages) without risking too much. But he is not going to be an inspector forever, not with such history of his family members. This founds him allies, but also enemies. And so he is pressed to work, train, find ways to get strength (and influence with power). And he is actually becomes smarter with time, but I wouldn't say it's a big improvement, tbh. Anyway, this doesn't help him to hide from the eyes of some people that knew personally his family members and now wish to use him too. Luckily he has his system that would help him overdo by a lot everyone's expectations, all under the assumption "well, he is his *** so it's not that much big of a deal". And not gonna lie, some of the bigs just say "it is what it is, I don't care as long as you able to accomplish what I want". Or something like that, ha-ha constraint boast
Anyway, In My Honest Opinion, even if my review is written and feels like shit, give novell a shot, it's worth it. English not my native language, and I wrote here a lot of jibberish without a translator, so kindly ask not to shit on me, haha pressure please cat
If anyone knows where I can read more, because even MTL stopped uploads, let me know pls

Good enough novel if forgetting about some inconsistency.
Ideals are very well described in that sense this is very deep.

I am very conflicted about this one. From one side it's interesting world setting - some apocalypse with a twist (transcended humans, infected creatures and some nice power dynamic with good explanation) so it's not typical apocalypse type of novel and MC is the border inspector but... from the other side it's very slow paced. Everything have to be explained in detail almost no fight at all and big part of novel is about politics and factions. This aspect is deeper and deeper with every chapter with more connections and schemes.

Overall it's not bad if someone like mystery and plots with lot's of schemes and details. MC is not stupid and knows what he wants but like in typical chinese novels everything have to take it's sweet time. World is detailed and things don't pop up out of nowhere. I don't understand comments about this novel being bad because we have tags for a reason. This action tag is a little bit overstrech for now along with adventure but the rest is still there.

Maybe not my cup of tea but it's worth reading.
I tasted the poison. I'm still alive so it's not that bad boast

This novel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. At first glance, I thought it would just be another slop, power fantasy with an OP cheat. But once I started reading, I realized it actually has a lot more to offer.

The world building is nice and immersive. The apocalypse isn’t just a backdrop, it feels fleshed out with its own logic and history. Sanctuary Cities have sprung up, each with their own internal conflicts, ideologies, politics and rivalries. MC’s city feels alive, full of people with different goals, attitudes, and agendas. It doesn’t feel like an empty stage propped up just for the MC.

As for the MC himself, he’s written as a “modern guy with morals.” He doesn’t suddenly turn cold, evil, or hyper ruthless like so many other protagonists, though there is clear character growth as the story progresses. The side characters are also worth mentioning, they don’t just exist to gape at MC’s antics. They interact with him meaningfully, influence events, and bring more layers to the story.

The cheat ability is another highlight. It’s not ridiculously overpowered from the start. In fact, it’s quite limited in the beginning. He can only use it occasionally and never at full power. But as he upgrades it, it really starts to shine. The “skill stealing” mechanic is quite fun, especially since he can’t just insta grab max level abilities. There’s a sense of progression and balance that makes it feel earned.

The monsters and infected creatures are a huge draw, too. They’re bizarre, unsettling, and almost Lovecraftian in design (almost). From tentacles that resurrect dead, to plants that mimic the dead and infiltrate human settlements, they’re quite creative. The fights against them aren’t jaw dropping yet, but they’re fun enough to keep me looking forward to how future battles might look like.

Overall, I’m hooked. The story feels alive, the side characters have depth, the world-building is well done, and even the fights have their charm. On top of that, the translation quality is solid. Definitely worth picking up if you like apocalyptic survival mixed with unique monster designs and a protagonist who actually feels human.

tldr: Wasteland Border Inspector is a surprisingly solid apocalyptic novel with strong world-building, creative monster designs, and a protagonist who feels human instead of a machine. The cheat ability is balanced and grows over time, side characters have depth, and the world actually feels alive. Definitely worth checking out.
