“Doc, it’s like the game I made is becoming a reality.”

“Isn’t that nice? People are under so much pressure at work these days, but you can get away from it all, play the game, and live the life of your dreams.”

“But I’m a famous ghost story game designer, I’ve conceived one hundred and twenty-six mu*der cases, portrayed dozens of mu*derers with different personalities, and to find material I’ve watched ninety-five thriller movies, more than four hundred horror comics, and collected more than two thousand urban weird tales. Now they all seem to be true!”

“So… do I look familiar to you?” Collapse

Just finished chapter 30 and here's my take:

The writing style is okay. Translation isn't that bad. This is descriptive so it isn't hard to understand or imagine the events. The plot and concept is quite unique and interesting. Additionally, MC isn't a coward who runs away every single time. He probably has a deeper background story compared to what was described at the start—just like Chen Ge from My House of Horrors.

However, these are the cons I've encountered:

    1. I am not sure if I just got used to the horror from My House of Horrors and My Iyashikei Game but this feels a bit lacking. I saw one comment here about the MC being detached and I do agree that it was one of the reasons why it was harder to see the horror from his perspective.

    2. This has a weaker hook than the previous novels of the author. I actually read this once when it was newly released(I didn't know it was the same author) and stopped at less than 5 chapters. I came back after recognizing the author but same thing happened. It's quite hard to get hooked and continuously read(in my case. Can't say anything about yours).

Another comment said it was still just a build up until chapter 60-ish.

    3. The world-building and concept was quite hard to understand(not sure if it was just because of translation or because it was a bit new for me). Some aspects were not explained clearly—might be for future lore or something. However, this contributed to the lesser chances of being hooked for me.

I'd still try to read more of this to see what will happen but as of now, I am not expecting anything the same level as the author's previous novels. This would probably be a 6/10 for me currently.

It's good but lacking the X factor needed to hook and keep you engaged. I've picked up and put it down many times trying catch the right mood but I found there isn't a right mood for this Novel. The horror has so much potential but for some reason isn't actually scary? Maybe I'm overstepping but the MC just seems detached from the situation and makes it hard for the reader to feel the terror from his perspective.

Genuinely the best explanation to this novel's mc I've seen, I mean how are we supposed to feel fear if the mc doesn't fear anything

If you are expecting the same thing as in “My House of Horrors” and “My Iyashikei Game”, because they seem to have the same author with this novel, then pass by. I've read 56 chapters so far and am deeply disappointed. Compared to the two above, this is some kind of slag. There is a crumpled plot and a passive MC, who in a dangerous situation cannot do anything sensible.
While there are references to My House of Horrors and My Iyashikei Game, and there are quite a few, I actually doubt it was written by the same author. It’s as if his writing qualifications have sharply dropped by two points on a five-point scale (and it’s not a matter of translation, not only in it). That is, if earlier it could be considered 4.8-4.9, now it is a weak C grade.
If you haven't read those two novels, you might even like this one, but I recommend reading them rather than... this.

    -------------Some time later------------
So, what I said above is true, but as it turns out, this is just an introduction. For 63 and a half chapters, yes.
Since this was an introduction, the author did not want to describe the events in detail, and the main character... left much to be desired.
It will be better now that the main story is going on. I hope.

    --------------
    No, it's still f*cked up. I don't recommend this.
