Domains actually are quite easy to understand. Basically the Supremes need domains to gain more power. However, they also need to build and grow their domain. The way they do this is thought territory and people. And the spell happens to give them the exact thing they need, which is gateways, of which the ones that are created in the Daemon territory seem to be stronger or greater. So now they fight over the control of this Daemon gateways

after reading RI, i think its easier for me to grasp the concept of Domains. Its similar to how the Venerables accumulate dao marks but in this case they are fighting over citadels.

Also another similarity is in how they are most advantageous in their own territory.

Are Dormant and Awakened rank basically the same?

When Nephis explained the Steps, she gropued the Dormant and Awakened together as First Step.
Similarly one needs to go through only the 1st Nightmare to reach the Awakened. (There is the Winter Solitice, I know).
Finally, in the 2nd Nightmare we saw Awakened, Ascendent, Transcendent and normal humans but no Dormant humans.

I feel like Dormant and Awakened are the same but the spell differentiate them for the purpose of acting like a good tutorial guide.

normal/mundane humans ARE dormant. I personally believed being a Sleeper is something a human should have never been able to be without the Nightmare Spell and I'm kind of right since it's kind of a normal person just with a completely lackluster core.

I think it might be something that is kind of smudged out of being lore accurate since it was something created so early in the series.

The Supremes, then, took another step toward Godhood, and that step seemed to be tied to authority. It made sense, really. because that progression was similar to how Nightmare Creatures grew in Class the Tyrants were all about rule and authority, too.
bur tyrant is the 5th class, werent we talking about ranks? are classes and ranks tied together

No, sunny just made an observation of how these two were similar, just like how the 5th class was all about controlling lesser beings, the 5th rank, supreme is all about establishing their domain or control or influence over the world
